Finding Strength Within - An Exercise in Self Care
Some days are easier than
others, but overall we can all use words of support one time or another. Once
you are a mother, you realize that you are the person rooting your child on and
helping them learn how to process their emotions in a healthy way. Self care
could easily get lost in the trenches of motherhood and in order to offer
support, you must feel true loving strength from within. As your child needs
kindness and acceptance, so do you. The cycle of caring for ourselves comes
back around while we are caring for those around us. I hope this exercise
reminds you of how important a mother’s happiness is and how 5 minutes could
make a world of difference on a challenging day.
Once a day or on a
challenging day, take 5 to 10 minutes to feel your most prominent, difficult
emotion, sadness, fear, guilt, burden or confusion.
Breathe deeply and relax
for 1 minute or 2, then feel and hold that complex emotion, fully and deeply.
As you breathe in feel
the emotion and as you breathe out, imagine carrying it in your arms.
Say what feels most
natural to you, I care for your sadness or I care for your suffering.
Take this caring and hold
it close to your heart (you may even touch your heart) and accept this comfort,
as you would want your child to receive it.
You are deeply loved.
I do something similar to this. I don't focus on the emotion, I just do some 'square breathing' for a couple of minutes. It does help! Such a simple thing. I enjoyed this post.
ReplyDeleteHello Kim,
ReplyDeleteTaking a moment to decompress doesn't take much time, but it does take dedication. Glad you enjoyed this post.
Usually what i do is stare outside my flat. It works! Just taking a moment to pause helps a lot. :-)
ReplyDeleteAgy,
ReplyDeleteThat is a great way to relax and open up. Thanks for sharing that with the community.
